This book has been edited by Jenny Fenton, a person with dermatomyositis, with additional editorial input from a rheumatology consultant and a research scientist. The book starts with case studies from people with dermatomyositis, polymyositis, inclusion body myositis and juvenile myositis. Following the case studies are chapters written by professionals on the history of myositis, an introduction to myositis, treatments, nutrition, dysphagia, counselling, complementary medicine, emotions and an exercise programme specifically aimed at people with this rare muscle condition etc etc. The editor is an ex-trustee of the UK Myositis Support Group and runs the London Myositis Support Group. |

Reading your book has opened my eyes to this illness and I am sure it will help many other readers understand better what you have to go through. I've received my Myositis book this morning - and it's wonderful. On behalf of all those of us with Myositis - thank you for all your efforts in producing this book. It is so comprehensive, done by professionals and people with direct experience. I am impressed with the professional but down-to-earth tone and the quality of the production. As I am reading, I keep shouting 'that happened to me' or 'I didn't know that' so it has been a revelation for me. We have also purchased a book for my consultant and will ask that he lends it to some of his trainee doctors (and preferably buys some more copies for the hospital library!). These doctors need to know about us psychologically and emotionally as well as pumping the drugs in. I received the book just a couple of days ago and it's great - congratulations! Your book is just wonderful. It took my breath away when I saw it. It is just perfect. I love the cover, the title and everything about the contents. Thank you for sending it to me! Very sincere congratulations on the publication of this excellent book and to all concerned in its production. So many hazy bits of info that I had gathered over the years have now been clarified.

Thank you for taking so much time and effort to make it a reality. It is a groundbreaking book. I would just like to say that I have read your book and I think that it is very good. I think it would be a good book for doctors to read as I am frustrated with doctors who have no idea about the disease and try to tell you that it is no worse than a bad skin rash! I was reading the book and wanted to mention that it is absolutely a great book. There are so many times, I have cried reading the case studies and the chapter on nutrition has really helped. My husband is going through the book as well and I think reading about other people has helped him understand a bit better about what I go through. I've read the book from cover to cover - it's excellent. It doesn't talk down but it gives lots of common sense. Whilst 'Myositis' is clearly going to be of benefit to patients with myositis, I also feel that this book will be of great benefit for those doctors who deal with the condition, perhaps particularly those who do not see it terribly often. I am therefore planning to get it reviewed by one of my other patients with myositis, for publication in one of the major journals dealing with muscle disease. - A Consultants view.
